APS LogoThe A.P.S. Questionnaire and Reports, offered on this site, are only available to our students.  The Arno Profile System (A.P.S.) can be purchased by our counselees, clients, and patrons via our main website or you may contact a student in training to request that he/she administer the A.P.S.

The A.P.S. can be completed only after confidentially receiving the questionnaire administered by a credentialed Christian counselor (or student in training).

As a student, you will learn the Arno Profile System for use in Christian counseling, life coaching, spiritual care, educational settings, and other applications.

The A.P.S. is an easy-to-learn counseling technique used by thousands of lay counselors, professional counselors, clergy, and other professionals throughout the United States and in numerous foreign countries.  The system enables a qualified counselor to identify the root problem, faster and more accurately. This counseling model, developed by the N.C.C.A., focuses on enabling persons to better understand themselves and their responsibility to establish a spiritual relationship with the Lord. The Scriptural concept is based on Genesis 1:1, “In the beginning God created…” and Psalm 139:13-14.  Psalm 139 refers to it as our “inmost being”. Who God created us to be (temperament) and who we become through learned behavior (personality), can be vastly different.  It is from that difference intra-personal and inter-personal conflict often develops.   As Christian counselors, we need help people find out who God has created him/her to be in their “inmost being” and who they are in Christ. By doing this we can help them learn to operate out of their God-given temperament strengths, learn to be guided by the Word of God and walk in the Spirit, and overcoming their temperament weaknesses.

How It Works

The counselor (counselor in training) will administers an A.P.S. Questionnaire, consisting of 54 questions, which takes fewer than ten minutes for the counselee to complete. This is done by purchasing the A.P.S., for each participant, and receiving a link to complete the questionnaire by email.  The counselor may then administer the A.P.S. via the link.  After administering the Arno Profile System (A.P.S.), the system will notify our office that the A.P.S. Questionnaire has been completed.  We will then send the counselor a 7 to 8 page computer analysis. N.C.C.A. Licensed Counselors also qualify to purchase the A.P.S. software giving them the ability to generate the A.P.S. from their own office. The questionnaire identifies and measures an individual’s inherent needs, natural tendencies, strengths, and weaknesses according to in-born temperament. This information is presented in the computerized A.P.S. Report, providing the counselor with in-depth information and the best way to counsel the individual. The A.P.S. enables a qualified counselor to identify the individual’s temperament with a research-proven success rate of more than 90%.  These reports are provided in a confidential and secure manner. The following four types of reports are available:

  • Adult [Personal or Clinical + SPP]
  • Teen (ages 12 – 17) [Clinical or Clinical + SPP]
  • Child (ages 7 – 11) [Clinical or Clinical + SPP]
  • Personnel

Students purchase the A.P.S. at the specified student rate and can qualify to charge a fee for the A.P.S. Report during or after their practicum (see applicable program or course information for details).

About the A.P.S. Report

The temperament identification, provided in the A.P.S. Report, identifies human interaction generated within the three areas of the soul:

  • Inclusion (Mind) indicating social orientation and intellectual energies
  • Control (Will) indicating decision making abilities or inabilities
  • Affection (Emotions) indication how a pers interacts in deep relationships

It also identifies each one of the three areas of interactions in two ways:

  • Expressed (what we say we want), and
  • Wanted (what we really want)

The A.P.S can be administered in person, via email link, or via QR Code for use with a QR Code enabled mobile device. Unless communication with the Soul Care Ministries Institute by email is not available, it will be processed with the student electronically.

Students may place orders via our Student A.P.S. Order Form.

History of Arno Profile System

The Arno Profile System was developed by Drs. Richard G. and Phyllis Arno.  Drs. Arno are the founders of the National Christian Counselors Association (N.C.C.A.) and the Sarasota Academy of Christian Counseling (S.A.C.C.).

Drs Arno Richard and Phyllis ArnoIn 1983, Drs. Arno began conducting research and development of a scripturally based therapeutic procedure that would produce effective, positive, and more immediate results with those needing counseling and spiritual guidance.  The purpose of the research was specifically to develop an accurate, clinical, testing procedure for initial identification of the counselee’s inborn, God-given temperament.

While conducting the research, Drs. Arno worked with more than 5,000 individuals.  The individuals were people who sought counseling for depression, inter/intra-personal conflict, marriage and family dysfunction, and anxiety.  In-depth studies were also  conducted on all of the current psychological tests and/or behavioral inventories.

For many reasons, Drs. Arno selected the FIRO-B, which was developed by Dr. Will Schutz, as their initial measuring device or questionnaire. Drs. Arno originally named their analysis procedure the Temperament Analysis Profile (T.A.P.) and subsequently re-titled it in November 2000 to the Arno Profile System (A.P.S).

The A.P.S. reveals the “hidden problems” that normally take the counselor seven or eight sessions to identify. Presently, more than 7,000 professional Christian counselors, ministers, lay counselors, life coaches, and leaders rely on the Arno Profile System to aid them in their counseling, coaching, and care of souls. These Christians report an accuracy rate of more ninety-percent (90%) in identifying an individual’s inborn, God-given temperament.

Drs. Arno also identified a fifth temperament. Traditionally, there have been four temperaments: Melancholy, Sanguine, Choleric, and Phlegmatic. The fifth temperament, that was identified by the Arnos’ research, is called the Supine.  While we do not find the word ‘temperament’ the Bible, the concept and information that the A.P.S. places in the hands of a Christian counselor is bible based, extremely important, and state-of-the-art.

“The Arno Profile System is highly recognized, accepted,  and professional.  This faith-based tool is a tremendous asset to all Christians who provide counseling, coaching, spiritual leadership, consulting, and soul care.”
